The Elan from Lotus cars was first brought out into the automotive world in 1962 and remained in production till 1992. Although initially, it came out in the form of a roadster, a coupe version with a steel backbone chassis and a body made of fibreglass was introduced three years later.
The Lotus Elan was the one car that was lavishly endowed with a lot of investment, which led to several developmental features that resulted in remarkable performance combined with a unique style. And the most significant aspect that cannot be overlooked is that all these features are available at a very reasonable price tag too.
A most noticeable factor of the Elan is its seating position which happens to be quite on the lower side. Initially, this remarkable car came fitted with a twin-cam 1558 cc engine that had an independent 4-wheel suspension too. But the 1990s witnessed advancement in the model of the original engine when it was altered to a 1588 cc 16 valve Isuzu Gemini engine that was turbocharged and had a power of 162 hp. The 0 – 60 mph mark was reached in 6.5 seconds and the car could go up to a maximum speed of 220 km per hour. But there is a general belief that the early cars were lighter, resulting in better power and speed than the later versions of the Elan.
